Hilary Clinton is a DINO

posted in: Politics — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 1:14 pm

The republican party successfully clawed and cheated their way into controlling the government with GW Bush and his first election. Now they will continue to control it through Hilary Clinton if she is elected.

Hilary Clinton does just enough to be able to say she is a democrat, but all of the things gorge bush did during his two terms in office that were wrong were done with Hilary Clinton’s blessings . . . and her votes.

She has voted along party lines, but the party lines she voted with were republican party lines. If she is elected, she will continue the status quo. She is for big business and her voting record proves she is pro-Iraq war and that she doesn’t mind US citizens being wiretapped.

Electing Hilary Clinton is giving the republican party, pro-Iraq War people, and those who want to compromise the privacy of US citizens a third straght term in office.

ESPN Monday Night Football Worst Announcing Ever

posted in: Main — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 4:31 am

I can’t help but point out how bad monday night football has gotten since it went to ESPN.

Lets start with halftime. I tune in because I am a football fan. Their toyota halftime report consists of the fastest 3 minutes in football where they show some highlights of sunday’s games in fast forward.

The for the next 15 minutes they interview nascar drivers.

Then at least during the game you might think you would hear something about the game we are actually watching. Or at least something about football in general.

But no. Instead they get someone on like drew carey for a whole quarter where they discuss the price is right, the show drew carey now hosts instead of the football game that is playing.

Then finally drew leaves. Now they talk about every quaterback in the league and who they know and don’t know and what they think of each quarterback.

Through all of this, every now and then they will point out that there is a timeout or they have to go to a commercial.

Rarely do they actually talk about a play that is going on. Yet they will also interject their opinion of what is going on in the game. How can they form an opinion when it seems they haven’t even been watching the game at all?

Couldn’t ESPN find any announcers that are actually interested in football? Couldn’t they find anyone in all of football to do interviews with at halftime instead of nascar?

What’s next? Interviews with figureskaters during halftime? Yes ESPN is about all sports, bit NOT during the football game! Drew Carey has nothing to do with football. Nor does the price is right!

Can you guys at ESPN give us football when football is on? Can’t you do more at halftime than speed through the football highlights to make sure you have time to promote the nascvar race you will be showing next weekend?

I hope so because I am beginning to think monday night football is dead and thinking od going on to do something else on monday nights.

Hey I know how to get ESPN’s attention. I can go to any sporting event besides football on monday night and ESPN will likely be covering that during the monday night football game anyway.

Web Designers Without A Clue

posted in: Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 4:47 pm

You know what? It’s great that web designers know how to pick pretty colors. it’s great that they know all kinds of cute little scripts that add bells and whistles to a website. I think it’s just amazing that web designers can create such pretty websites.

But could you web designers out there get just a clue about seo. Just a little bit? Clients come to me and other seo service providers after you design these wonderful looking websites and blogs and ask us to do the seo for your creation.

Is there any way that you web designers out there could make that just a little bit harder to do? You put so much code into the site that is unnecessary it becomes next to impossible to optimize. We end up basically redoing all of that bloated code and getting rid of half of it.

Knowing how to use dreamweaver and front page does not make you a web designer. Learn a little more about code please. Those of you out there who are web designers and actually know how to write html code in notepad and actually do know something about seo, this post is not about you. And you know who I am talking about.

It’s about those genius web designers that use programs to write code for them because they have no clue or they are too lazy to write code.

I’m ranting because it takes a lot of extra time to fix your mistakes. You tell your clients that the website will do well in the search engines and it’s a lie. Quit telling them about things you don’t know anything about please.

Better yet. read something about seo once in awhile so you can actually produce a product worth buying. I’m not asking web designers to become seo experts. i’m just asking that they know something about building websites besides picking pretty colors.

You already have people convinced your work is worth more than it is. At least earn a little of that money. Your design is nothing more than a shell for good seo content. Everyone wants a nice professional looking website, but it is really just a shell to put good content into.

So please get over yourself and quit patting yourself on the back for your great creative genius and learn how to write code so that other people don’t spend so much time fixing your work.

Clients would be happy. You could actually try to save them a little money. You could quit selling hype and do the job right the first time.

But then, the Miami Dolphins could win the super bowl too.

Internet Scams As Seen On TV

posted in: Consumer Protection — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 8:49 am

I was just watching this commercial on tv. They tell me for just $1 I can start my online business with everything I need to be successful. My worries are over right?

As usual, wrong. People really should get it thorugh their heads that if it sounds too good to be true it is. Especially where tv commercials come into play.

The commercial was for 24.mydollardomain.com. For just $1 you get a domain name and you can use sitebuilder to build your website and start making money right away!

Only when you actually read the terms of service you see where the suspicious part of it come in.

Dollar Website Details

Welcome to MyDomain’s $1 trial offer. You will receive the use of a domain of your choosing, plus a Standard Shared Hosting (Windows only) package with SiteBuilder® in this exclusive 30-day risk-free trial offer; it has everything you need to design and launch your own website.

If for any reason you are unhappy with your domain name and/or hosting plan during the first 30 days, you can cancel by simply clicking on the “cancel” button on the account management page in your account.

Sound good so far?

If you cancel during the 30-day trial period, the domain will become the property of MyDomain.*

So in other words you are not really registering a domain name. They are. And if you cancel, they keep it. That means it was never your domain name at all.

If you do not cancel your service within 30 days, you will be automatically billed $8.95 for the one-year registration of your domain name, and $32.85 for a three-month subscription of your hosting plan 31 days after you order the trial offer. Your credit card will then be billed $32.85 every three months for your quarterly hosting subscription, and $8.95** annually for the one-year domain registration. If at any time your credit card cannot be authorized for the required amount, your service will cease.

And everything reverts to them. That means if they get people to work hard at getting some traffic, then they don’t pursue it anymore, as many people don’t, then they can monetize the traffic you worked to build.

The $1 paid for the trial offer is applied to the 30-day Standard Shared Hosting (Windows only) package. If you actively cancel your domain during the trial offer, or if your credit card cannot be authorized for the purchase after the trial period ends, then your domain will become the property of MyDomain.*

The $1 MyDomain 30-day trial offer is for a limited time only. This offer is limited to one per household and one per account and is not valid with any other offer. This offer is available only for new domain name registrations of .com, .net, .org, info., and .biz. This offer applies only to domains registered with MyDomain. MyDomain reserves the right to request additional information for proper order processing and/or the right to reject any order.

* See Registration Agreement and ICANN regulations for further details.

** One-year registration fee subject to change.

That last really cool statement means if you get a lot of traffic and you begin to have some success, they reserve the right to raise the cost of that domain name each year. It’s completely up to them. Now of course I’m not saying they are scammers and would do such a thing, but they reserve the right to do it anyway.

And this is from the terms of service at mydomains.com which really owns this great one dollar offer.

You understand and acknowledge that MyDomain.com is not itself a registrar of domain names, but offers such registration services on its Website as a service to its members by providing registration pages and links to official sellers and registrars of domain names.

Members are under no obligation to use any of the domain registration services available at MyDomain.com. If you use any of the domain registration services on the MyDomain.com Website you will also be subject to the Registration Agreement of the registrar for such domains, current Namesdirect.com.

My point is stop trying to get something for nothing. It’s much better to use a well-known and trusted registrar like enom.com, godaddy.com, register.com, or networksolutions.com than to try to get soemthing for nothing. it almost always ends badly.

The fact that they control the domain name should be enough to scare you away. When you register a domain name, it should have your whois info on it. You should have control of the domain name you registered, period. Anything short of that is a scam in my opinion.

Some hosting companies and web design companies do the same thing. They know clients don’t know any better so they register the domain name in their own name instead of the client’s name. Then if you ever try to leave them for another company, they “decide” how much they should charge you to keep your own domain name.

Don’t get ripped off.

New England Patriot Haters

posted in: Main — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 4:29 am

I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan for life, not a patriots fan, but I just had to comment about all the haters out there.

I was watching ESPN the other day and some of the announcers were crying that the patriots were runnming up the score on the poor washington redskins the other day because they did a QB sneak on 4th down.

They were in field goal range. If they had kicked a field goal, it would have run the score up and these whiners would still be crying.

If they had thrown a touchdown, these guys would still be whining about running up the score.

They couldn’t punt because they were in the red zone.

What do these crybabies think they should have done? Taken a knee to give the redskins the ball on downs? That would be pretty insulting and embarrassing wouldn’t it?

These are pro football teams. There is no mercy rule in football. To revise what tom hanks said in that baseball movie, “There’s no crying in football”.

If the patriots are good enough to score 100 points per game, let them score the points. Brady is setting all kinds of records this year. Why should he curb his ability to set the bar even higher for future quaterbacks and set records that will be hard to break.

Should they play below their skill level to keep from hurting the other team’s feelings?
