Automated Comment Poster Software

posted in: Consumer Protection, Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 11:40 pm

Anyone with a wordpress blog gets spam comments that come from a spambot. I just looked up one of these spambot sales pages and you’d be amazed at the bs on this page.

So go and order extra large hosting packages right now - I’ll teach you step by step how to get thousands of visitors who will make you the money like crazy!

If you make a comment on a blog and link to a website or blog that is not related to your product, services, or topics, then that link has absolutely ZERO SEO value.

So What’s The Secret? Well, I’ll be honest with you - there is no secret. Really. If you will read ANY Search Engine Optimization related book or visit any SEO forum, you will see the only main requirement - to make your website successful, you MUST get as many incoming text links as possible. And if some “experts” sold you crap (e-books, stupid tools, etc.) claiming you will become a millionaire after purchasing their crap, you were scammed. So take your money back and get ready for next-generation tool.

Yet this guy is telling people that exact thing and anyone buying this junk should get their money back. Akismet, the wordpress plugin kicks out most of their crappy links and others are deleted by blog owners. SO you don’t get tons of backlinks and the ones you do get are worthless.

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to tell you how Comment Poster bypasses protection used against automated comments posting. If you don’t want to receive my automated comments - the only way to stop this madness is to remove your website from the Internet :)

That statement right there should tell you that you should avoid this product and avoid doing business with these people. He is unethical in the way the bot posts comments and is scamming people into believing that these links will help you make money or build link popularity.

If they have no ethics in dealing with the people whose blogs his software posts on, what makes you believe they is ethical in what they tell you?

Nah, I’m not one of these scammers who use dirty tricks to get your money. Most of these dirty tricks used by scammers look like this one - “This software is worth $1000, but if you will order today, you will pay only $300 and I will give you free bonus of $2000 value”. Yes, it’s amazing how many people still believe in this trick and order junk products. But think yourself - what kind of idiot he should be if he is selling $1000 value software for $300? Also their “bonus” is nothing but 100% scam. Everything you will receive - some junk ebooks with links to their affiliate products.

I just love the way they tell you that everyone is a scammer, except them.

Seriously, if you believe that these automated spambots are going to help you make money or build link popularity, then you are too dumb to hold on to your money.

Wordpress Blog Spammers

posted in: Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 12:41 pm

These people who use bots to go out and spam wordpress blogs have got to be some of the biggest idiots on the web. Unfortunately it is also done by some companies who tell their clients they are doing seo work and link building for them.

Any company that is spamming comments into wordpress blogs and calling it link building or seo is lying to you. Your comments are not getting approved and even if they slip through the cracks the comments are doing you absolutely no good.

If I have a blog about giftbaskets and your spammy comment is about credit cards, real estate, porn, gambling, or some other scam you have online, a link in my blog will not increase your link popularity.

All you manage to do is get ISPs and search engines to ban your domain name, mark your IP block as a spam source, and annoy people.

So if there is no benefit to you and lots of penalties for doing this, I can only conclude that you are totally stupid or some scam seo company is taking your money by telling you that there is some benefit to doing this.

Either way, you need to stop it and try promoting your website the way legitimate marketers do.

Bad Behavior Plugin For Blogs Behaves Badly

posted in: Consumer Protection, Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 2:07 pm

Every now and then another blacklist appears that claims it has the solution to the spam problem on the web. They never have a real solution and end up blocking legitimate users from accessing websites, doing email, etc.

The latest encounter I had with one is called bad behavior. This one even regularly locks the administrators of the blog out of their own blog. They have to rename the plugins folder just so they can get back in and they own the blog. So how can anyone expect it not to block legitimate users?

Bad behavior is really useless as with the case of most blacklists and related software. Seriously, the first time i visit a blog and get blocked, you expect I will bother to email the blogger? Nope. With millions of blogs that don’t block me I have plenty to read.

So all of you who have that claim bad behavior has cause a reduced load on your server, you might want to think that the reduced load is because of less readers and visitors to your blog.

Akismet deletes the spam just fine. I run about 50 blogs through my company. The extra “load” is not a real burden only an imagined one.

Here are some of the comments from the bad behavior blog;

I’m the admin of my blog and Bad Behavior is blocking me to get into the admin zone.

oops!

Yep, same here. My site was working fine, then a registered user told me they couldn’t get in. Went to check it out and the plugin won’t let me log in as admin!

uh oh

Same here. As soon as I am able to log into my blog that you’ve locked me out of, I’m going to remove this plugin, throw it on the floor and stomp on it.

That one was funny.

there is no reason in the world why a spam plugin should be allowed to override a top level administrative login, I would very strongly recommend against the use of this plugin to anyone who is considering it.

Me too.

Gotta say, great plugin, it works like a charm reducing load on my server.

Someone likes it! it’s reducing that huge load on his server.

same here, when activated BB i cannot browse my own sites. Also, i notice the same behaviour on www.teachmejoomla.net and www.dutchjoomla.org when using my regular desktop PC. (No matter if if use IE 7 or Firefox), When using another (linux) PC (behind the same router, firewall / ip) with Firefox i can visit the mentioned websites with no problem.
Have contacted the admins of the mentioned websites but they bounce the problem back : I have to check on viruses, spyware etc. or remove all firewall, anti-spyware software all together in order to access their websites ?!?!?!? What kind of advice is that. BTW : ie checked my desktop PC with various ant-virus/antispyware software with no result at all. When i suggest the admins to check their own configuration they reply a bit annoyed. All in all : i believe the BB plugin is a good concept but needs a serious bugfix. Untill then i stay away from www.teachmejoomla.net and www.dutchjoomla.org.

That last one sums it up. Users will stay away from a blog where they have problems accessing things. Go figure.

But for those of you wishing to defend bad behavior, which is more of a description of the plugin than a name, you can go get your own copy here and block your visitors from reading your blog too. If you are lucky it will block you out of your blog too.

Spammers And Scammers And Those Who Love Them

posted in: Consumer Protection, Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 10:49 am

Ok, I know that spam pisses a lot of people off, but they are not the only ones to blame. Those who open spam email and buy things or click links are responsible for the amount of spam we get each day. If these spammers, phishers, and scammers were not getting click thrus and sales then they would not be doing it.

If you are buying software from people who spam your email, you might be an idiot. Nuff said.

Great pharmaceutics from Canadian discount pharmacy.

The canadian pharmacy spammers are the best. The domain name they wanted me to click through and visit is registered to someone in Italy. I am sure there are a lot of canadian pharmacies in italy though.

People it is not that hard to recognize spammers and scammers.

If they tell you you won a lottery you never entered, then it is a scam. Don’t click the link “just in case it might be true”. It isn’t. period.

There are no former government officials or widows of former government officials somewhere in africa that need your help to get money into the US. None. There are none of these. This is not real. It never will be. And even if there were, they would not need your help and they would not be willing to share any of their money with you. They would not randomly send out an email to a random person they never met to make a deal like this. If you do not understand this, then someone really should be managing your money for you and just giving you a small allowance to buy food.

A pill will not make your penis bigger. Get over it.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. If you got an email from someone you do not know wanting to make you rich, it is a scam. Please stop buying anything you get from unsolicited email so the spammers will slow down just a little.

I promise if you do not click a link in a spam email for 30 days, your penis will grow, you will have erections that last for 36 hours at a time, you will win the lottery, and google will rank your website number 1 for all of your keywords.

Web Designers Without A Clue

posted in: Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 4:47 pm

You know what? It’s great that web designers know how to pick pretty colors. it’s great that they know all kinds of cute little scripts that add bells and whistles to a website. I think it’s just amazing that web designers can create such pretty websites.

But could you web designers out there get just a clue about seo. Just a little bit? Clients come to me and other seo service providers after you design these wonderful looking websites and blogs and ask us to do the seo for your creation.

Is there any way that you web designers out there could make that just a little bit harder to do? You put so much code into the site that is unnecessary it becomes next to impossible to optimize. We end up basically redoing all of that bloated code and getting rid of half of it.

Knowing how to use dreamweaver and front page does not make you a web designer. Learn a little more about code please. Those of you out there who are web designers and actually know how to write html code in notepad and actually do know something about seo, this post is not about you. And you know who I am talking about.

It’s about those genius web designers that use programs to write code for them because they have no clue or they are too lazy to write code.

I’m ranting because it takes a lot of extra time to fix your mistakes. You tell your clients that the website will do well in the search engines and it’s a lie. Quit telling them about things you don’t know anything about please.

Better yet. read something about seo once in awhile so you can actually produce a product worth buying. I’m not asking web designers to become seo experts. i’m just asking that they know something about building websites besides picking pretty colors.

You already have people convinced your work is worth more than it is. At least earn a little of that money. Your design is nothing more than a shell for good seo content. Everyone wants a nice professional looking website, but it is really just a shell to put good content into.

So please get over yourself and quit patting yourself on the back for your great creative genius and learn how to write code so that other people don’t spend so much time fixing your work.

Clients would be happy. You could actually try to save them a little money. You could quit selling hype and do the job right the first time.

But then, the Miami Dolphins could win the super bowl too.

Do Commercials Really Convince People To Buy?

posted in: Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 2:08 pm

I received this article in my email and found it after I finally got rid of all the emails wanting to help me make various organs larger and those who want to help me make money in the stock market and the other ones where I’ve won all of the lotteries that I never entered.

The Modern Marketing Reality

First, I always love it when someone starts out by saying that THEY have the reality of things down pat. This article is about marketing. This guy already started out marketing with the title of the article. He wants you to believe whatever he is about to write is fact, before you even read it. It’s good marketing.

Remember back in the good old days when TV commercials showed blind-folded people tasting different colas or washing dirty laundry, only to discover that one product was better than the other?

Marketers still do this.

Remember when such blatant product claims met with acceptance from the viewing audience? Remember when we actually believed the claims made through advertisements? Well, those days are long gone.

No they aren’t. The marketers and advertisers are still doing it because people are still dumb enough to believe what they see on tv or read in a magazine or newspaper.

The proof is that people still respond to the nigerian scam emails and phishing attempts that ask them to log in to their bank account on a website that does not belong to their bank.

People still order nothing down real estate books. They still believe that there are millionaires out there that are selling programs for $500 that can make them rich and that these millionaires are just doing it out of the good in their hearts.

There are even people that believe George Bush is telling the truth when he says something. he has marketers working for him too.

Over the past few decades, advertising had increased steadily to the point where the average person sees literally thousands of marketing messages each day. And that’s had an effect. Today, the average consumer no longer believes the claims communicated through marketing and have grown suspicious and skeptical of marketing in general. The average consumer has been fooled too many times to let another scam pull the wool over their eyes.

Again, not true. People are still clicking popup ads that say they are going to get rid of unwanted spyware on their computer while in reality these programs ARE spyware. Many people even believe that pharmaceutical companies run those drug ads on tv because they want to help us.

There are actually a few specific reasons why this evolution has taken place and we’ve already mentioned the first one. The fact is that there’s simply too much marketing out there. Between TV ads, radio ads, magazine ads, billboards, product placements, celebrity endorsements and the internet, our world has simply become over-saturated with marketing messages.

I agree with him here.

The second thing is that modern advertising has become deceptive.

Modern day advertising? Adverttising has ALWAYS been deceptive all the way back to the medicine man shows that traveled through the old west. Then the cure-all drugs throughout the thirties, etc. etc.

It’s long since been known that the easiest way to lie is to use statistics. There are so many different ways to interpret data that someone could probably convince you of just about anything and have detailed statistics backing up their argument. Marketers have taken advantage of this reality and made incredible claims that appear to be verified by legitimate research. Once the consumer discovers the figures were correct but misleading, the trust level disintegrates. That’s what’s happened these past few years. Consumers no longer believe what the research marketers present.

No, they just go on to believing the next marketer with similar claims because people want to believe there is an easy way to achieve anything. That is why the pill that claimed to help you lose weight while you sleep sold so much.

The third thing that’s happened is simply that the marketing messages no longer get noticed. Consumers have become desensitized to marketing messages so most go unnoticed by consumers. Now, the reality remains that the subconscious mind continues to be affected by these messages even if the conscious mind isn’t engaged but the impact of a marketing message on the conscious mind of a consumer has diminished significantly.

The marketers who will succeed in the new era are those who give consumers a sample of the product before a purchase decision is required. This phenomenon started with the increasingly unconditional return policies of retailers. Before long, it crossed the purchase threshold such that potential customers could actually sample the product before they made a purchase decision.

This is no different than the sampling stands you find in Costco. People are hired to prepare products and give shoppers free samples so they can make an informed decision. In fact, in more and more product categories, consumers are demanding samples first; value first; benefits first. And if the product meets their expectations, they can consider a purchase thereafter.

The downside is that marketing has become more expensive. Companies have to provide more value before revenue can be expected. But the upside is that customer loyalty is alive and well. You just have to earn that trust directly. If you can do that, the rest of the selling proposition becomes much easier.

I agree with the writer of the article that marketers who are honest will win customer loyalty in the long run. But don’t expect the other type of marketing to go away. The old saying, “There’s a sucker born every minute” is still true and consumers will always buy anything that promises miracles and the easy way out.

People are lazy and don’t want to believe it takes hard work to succeed so they will always buy get rich quick schemes. People don’t want to exercize and eat right to lose weight so they will always buy anything that promises to help them lose weight without much effort.

Do You Have A Google Habit?

posted in: Internet, News — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 12:14 am

I visit a lot of webmaster forums and visit blogs about SEO as well as write some blogs of my own about SEO, Article Marketing, and Blogging. I learn a lot by visiting other people’s blogs and forums and learn a lot by sharing that information with others.

But one thing bothers me about what I read on most forums and blogs. People are obsessed with Google. There are forums where they refer to Google as just “g” because they seem to be afraid someone at Google might read their post and not like it.

This Google obsession borders on lunacy. Webmasters seem to be convinced that without a good ranking in Google and without Google’s seal of approval, page rank, they cannot be successful on the web.

Let’s think about that for a moment. If Google folded tomorrow, not likely, but if they did, suddenly they just weren’t there. Google.com did not resolve, page cannot be displayed, what would you do?

Would it be like the stock market crash of the 30’s? Would webmasters be jumping off buildings? Would everyone just stop doing business on the web because Google was gone? Would the forums be full of grieving webmasters with nowhere to turn? Would they erect a statue of Matt Cutts and hold memorial services for the CEOs of Google? Would you light a candle for Google?

The point I’m trying to make is that business was being done on the web before Google became a search portal, before adwords and adnonsense, before Matt Cutts had a blog, and before Google hired an artist full-time to keep making cute little Google logos. Before there was a Google toolbar, page rank, Google images, Google stores, and Google pay, we made money on the Internet.

Yet, people write articles, blogs, and forums posts that start with things like, “If you do business on the web, you have to pay attention to Google”, like that was a fact etched in stone.

If you are someone who builds a lot of websites, try an experiment. Ignore Google for just that one website. Focus on other search traffic and other ways to get business done. All without using anything Google. Just try it once. I’ll bet if you really try, you will still have success with your website, without visiting Matt Cutts’ blog even once. Just make it a game, see if you can make money on the web without Google.

Or do you have the Google habit so bad that you actually believe the web could not actually function without Google? It’s like Al Gore saying he invented the Internet. We know he didn’t. Neither did Google.

Who is Clicking those Popups?

posted in: Internet — Chris McElroy aka NameCritic @ 1:47 pm

Will you stop already? You are just encouraging those people. Every time you click on a popup ad, you convince some marketer that popup ads are a good idea. So, stop it! Don’t click popups!

The fact is that marketers do believe that because they get a few clicks on popups that they are a good idea. But if you are the owner of a website and you are selling popups, it’s you that is losing money.

I unsubscribe or block every website that I visit if it gives me a popup ad. That means you sell an ad that uses popups and it’s you that loses visitors and business. The advertiser gets their few clicks from the people who don’t know any better.

You, as the owner of the website likely loses 10 visitors who will never come back for every one click the popup advertiser gets. And if it is you, the website owner who is using popups, then you damage your own business. That includes those cute little sliding “subscribe to my stupid newsletter” popups that scroll across the screen, blocking the content I came to read.

Then there are the real idiots who own websites that put in popups so the little x to close them is off the screen so a user has to drag it over to get to the x and close the popup. Oh yeah. That will make us like you so much more. Ohhh, there’s no little x to close the box. Now I have to buy something! Yeah right. If you are using these you are an idiot.

Then there are the fake warning popups. Such and such has been detected on your computer! You are being tracked! Click here to get help! Oh my GOD! I have to click that right away! My computer is infected! A popup just told me so! If you are clicking these fake alerts, please don’t have children. We do not need to lower the IQ of the average american citizen any further.

Then those clever webmasters who disable the back button. Oh yeah. This will force us to buy something. We can’t leave! Oh my GOD! I’m trapped on this website. Better get my credit card out and buy something! Like we would trust anyone who tries to trap us on their website. If you own a website and you think disabling the back button will somehow make you more sales, you should not be allowed to operate a computer.

Helpful Tip for Webmasters: If what you are about to put into your website will annoy people, you will not make more sales. That’s pretty much a no brainer. Of course so are some webmasters. They will never get it.
